Thanjavur

Thanjavur at a distance of 340 kms from Chennai is an important centre of South Indian religion, art, and architecture. Most of the Great Living Chola Temples, which are UNESCO World Heritage Monuments, are located in and around Thanjavur. The city is an important agricultural centre located in the Cauvery Delta and is known as the "Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu". Thanjavur is also known for its handloom silk sarees, cotton sarees and the most famous of the items is the Tanjore paintings which are in great demand all over the world. Tanjore is also known as the city of temples as it has many famous temples in and around the city including the Navagraha temples.

Chennai and Thanjavur Tour Itinerary

Day 1

Chennai - Thanjavur

Morning pick-up from advised location/Airport in Chennai & drive to Thanjavur. On arrival check into the hotel. Evening free for leisure or relaxation. Overnight stay.

Day 2

Thanjavur

Morning at leisure. After breakfast sightseeing tour of Thanjavur, visit Brihadeeswarar Temple. Brihadeeswarar Temple (World Heritage Site), built in 10th century is the grandest architectural achievement of the Chola era. After lunch proceed for an excursion to Trichy (approx 54 kms/1 hr). Visit Rock Fort temple, which is a prominent landmark of the city. Later tour of Srirangam Island. Return to Thanjavur in the evening for an overnight stay.

Day 3

Thanjavur - Chennai

Morning at leisure. After breakfast free time for relaxation. Afternoon drive back to Chennai. On arrival in Chennai transfer to advised location or Airport.
